Randwick R7 · The TAB Everest · Sat 17 Oct 2026

Furlong called the shape of the Everest. Top pick Tempted, 13.5%, barrier 1 — won at $6.50.

Sixteen starters. Four of the first five home — Tempted (1st, $6.50), Joliestar (3rd, $19), Headwall (4th, $51) and Ninja (5th, $26) — were inside Furlong's top five that morning. The one it missed was the $1.35 favourite, rated seventh; he ran second. Lodged in the members' form book before the jump and graded after it — no odds, no market, form only. Below: the form book as it stood pre-race, and the official result.

Two races free every day: the first race at each of the day's first two meetings. Members see every race. Every meeting, every race in running order, every runner rated. Scratched runners are struck through and the rest of the field re-rated, so the percentages always add up to the horses going around.

Where the winner came from

Last 30 days, 18 September to 17 October 2026: 1,062 races averaging 9.6 starters, scratched runners removed and the field re-ranked. Each bar is the share of races won by the horse Furlong ranked in that position.

Winner inside our top four: 718 of 1,062 races. A random four from these fields would hold the winner about 45% of the time.

Furlong counts every race at every meeting, country tracks included. Selective services publish their strongest few. Furlong's own standout picks are being graded separately and will appear here once the sample is meaningful.

How Furlong works

Each morning Furlong reads the full form for every horse in every Australian TAB race: recent runs, margins, class, distance, track, weight, barrier, connections and how each horse measures up against the rest of its field. It turns that into a win chance for every runner and a confidence tier for every race.

It never sees a price. No odds, no market moves and no betting data go into the model. When Furlong agrees with the favourite it got there on its own, and when it disagrees it is reading the form differently, not following the money.

How the record is kept

Every race is graded each night against official results. Nothing is hand-picked, and races where our top pick was scratched are shown separately, not quietly dropped.

Graded periods. 28 April to 11 August 2026 (1,194 races where the top pick started, 25.5%) and 2 September to 17 October 2026 (1,126 races, 25.2%), combined 588 of 2,320 (25.3%).

The gap. Grading failed between 12 August and 1 September, and those days can no longer be re-graded from our results provider, which keeps about 30 days. They are left out rather than estimated.

Method change. From 2 September, scratched runners are removed and the field re-ranked before grading. The 30-day figures use that method; the combined figure uses the original morning ranking throughout.
